Sodium Carbonate.

Commonly referred to as super washing soda. It is similar to baking soda but baking soda is a nontoxic chemical commonly used in food preparation, while sodium carbonate is toxic and should not be used internally. It is used to neutralize acids (i.e. when a swimming pool becomes too acidic, sodium carbonate can neutralize it), as a common cleaning product, as a water softener, and to help laundry detergents to lather more effectively (especially with hard water).

May cause severe side effects if swallowed, inhaled or exposed to the skin. Inhalation may cause difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, may inflame your throat or respiratory tract and may cause difficulty swallowing, hoarseness or wheezing. Accidentally ingestion may cause irritation to digestive tract or stomach, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Skin exposure may result in skin or eyes being inflamed or itchy and red. Excessive consumption or exposure to sodium carbonate may cause shock.
