Can be labelled as Methylparaben, Propylparaben or Butylparaben. It is used as a preservative to prevent microbial growth. Parabens are used in cosmetics, moisturizers, hair care products, spray tans, personal lubricants, toothpaste, deodorants, antiperspirants, and as a food and drug preservative.
Although uncommon, Parabens can cause skin irritation, contact dermatitis or rosacea.
Parabens have been found in breast cancer tumors. No direct link has been made between parabens and breast cancer however further studies are being conducted. Parabens may also be linked to early puberty in girls.
