Vinegar: Our Cleaning Recipes

Mixing your own green cleaning products using these recipes is not as difficult as you might think. We do it all the time. All of the ingredients are easily found. In fact, they are probably already in your pantry! The benefits are many. You never have to worry about what's in the bottle, no worries about toxins or chemical sensitivity, you don't need a degree in chemistry and you will never have to worry about how to pronounce the names of the ingredients. Below you find a few of our favorite, tried and true vinegar cleaning recipes. Hopefully you've read our 'About Vinegar' page but if you haven't, it may help you understand why vinegar works so well for household cleaning.

Recipes for Vinegar Cleaners

  • Air Freshener ½ oz of your favorite essential oil, 2 ½ cups white or cider vinegar, 1 cup water. Combine in spray bottle. Shake before use.
  • All Purpose Cleaner ½ cup vinegar, ½ cup rubbing alcohol, ½ cup water, 3 drops castille or dish soap. This solution will cut grease, remove sticky spills, dissolves mineral buildup but also inhibits mold/mildew stains and kills/prevents bacteria growth. *double amounts to make a floor cleaner
  • Creamy Scrubber ¼ cup baking soda, 1 tbsp castille or dish soap, enough vinegar just to make creamy. Mix in a dispenser bottle (like hand cream) and shake well.
  • Furniture Polish 1 part vinegar, 1 part olive oil. Combine in pump bottle and shake well.
  • Heavy Duty Glass/Window Cleaner 3 Tbs vinegar, ½ Tsp castille or dish soap, 2 ½ cups water. Mix in a spray bottle and shake.
  • Tile Cleaner ½ cup baking soda, 1 cup vinegar, bucket warm water. Mix the baking soda and vinegar in the water and apply to tiles with a clean microfiber or brush. * Not for natural stone tiles!
  • Wood Cleaner 3 Tbs vinegar, 3 Tbs water, ½ Tsp Castille or Dish soap, 1/8 Tsp Olive Oil. Combine ingredients. Use a clean microfiber to apply and wipe off.
